Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology by Leah Remini Review

Towards the end of last week, I started watching the show Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath on Hulu from A&E. It had mentioned Leah Remini's book, Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology, at some point within roughly the first episode, so I checked to see if I could borrow it through the library. Luckily, there was the both the e-book and audio book available. I immediately borrowed the audio book since I have way too many e-books to get through currently.

I listened to the bulk of the book in one day. It's narrated by Leah Remini herself. It was fascinating to hear her talk about her life growing up in the Church of Scientology and as well as everything she had gone through to get to a good place financially to support herself and her family as an actress.

The parts about the Church of Scientology do take up quite a bit of the book. It shows just how time consuming being part of this church is, as well as how expensive it is. And what they do to their parishioners when it comes to "moving up the ladder" is mind boggling. I can't imagine having to do all of that work and spending all that money just to have what happens happen.

The abuses you hear about, as well as separating people from their families, is absolutely horrible. A small part of me is surprised that more people haven't left this church behind. With reading this book, you see why more people aren't. Whether it be because they don't want to "disconnect" from their family or some other reason.

This is definitely a good book to get a look into the Church of Scientology to start out with. Leah had been part of the church for over 30 years before leaving it.

Rating: 4.5/5 stars
