Hey, guys! This week's check in is going to be really quick. I haven't had much time to physically read a book And I only completed one audio book but I did start a second one.
For the one audio book that completed, I finished Leigh Bardugo's Shadow and Bone. Which isn't really much of a surprise that I completed it since last update since I was so close to being done when I updated. I ended up finishing it while at the gym later that night. I rated it a three out of five stars
I've started Siege and Storm and I think I'm about halfway through listening to it now. I feel like I'm a little more interested in the story now. Although I'm really not liking Mal too much. That may change as the story progresses but we'll see.
I haven't made any progress in my reread of my physical copy of Sarah J Maas' A Court of Thorns and Roses, so there isn't anything to update there.
However, I have read a little bit of Tricia Levenseller's Daughter of the Siren Queen. I'm liking the progression of the story, so I will probably like how this plays out. I'm at a good point in the story where things just got interesting, so I don't know why I haven't picked this up to continue. I'm hoping to pick this up later today and make some more progress with it.
I have felt like a horrible reader lately since I haven't had a ton of a desire to read a physical book. I want to spend my time catching up on television shows, movies, and going to the gym. It's as if being on this temporary five day week at work has taken so much time away from me to get everything I want and need to get done. Two days just doesn't feel like enough time for laundry, gym, any cleaning I need to do, reading, and show/movie watching. Although that just doesn't explain the lack of desire to read. I would just rather be doing something else. So I will stick to my audio books and make progress in my pile of books that need reading that way in the meantime while at the gym or doing any other mindless task that I need to do.

Check In #8 and February Favorites!
Hey, guys! I know I missed last week's update. There was a few things going on at work that caused a bit of chaos and stress, so I was more focused on that than I was on my reading. Although, I did get quite a bit of audio book listening. Physical book reading... Not as much as I would have liked.
Good news for me at least is that I finally finished reading the physical book that was taking me a while to get through! Heather Fawcett's Even the Darkest Stars was a slower book until the last third or so. Then there was more action and set up the next book nicely. I liked the setting of the mountains and the focus was on climbing said mountains. You can see the hardships of dealing with the climb physically, stocked food slowly running low with no way too replenish it. The ending wasn't surprising but made sense for what we learn as the story goes and things line up. I may pick up the next book comes out but we'll see what happens.
The first audio book I finished, I almost DNF'd about a quarter of the way through: Liane Moriarty's The Husband's Secret. Then I planned on getting to where the secret was revealed just to find out what was in the letter, if it was just a love letter or that he had cheated on her or something to that affect. I had thought that was just going to be that he had cheated on her and didn't have the nerve to tell his wife that he had done it while alive. I probably would have liked this book a little bit more if I had read the physical book. I didn't like the random change of point of view between the three women we follow. I would think we were still following this person but now it's this person. And now it's the third. I liked seeing how all three of the women's lives intersected because of this secret but not at the expense of being bored through most of it. Finding out the secret and then the end was the most exciting parts. I ended up giving this a one point five out of five stars. And even that seems a bit generous for how dull it was.
The audio book I was listening to while listening to that one was definitely better. West Cork by Sam Bungery and Jennifer Forde was a free book for a limited time and I had hopes it would be better than the last free book that Audible had offered. And it was. It's a true crime documentary type of story, detailing a murder that occurs in West Cork, Ireland that had occurred in 1996, right before Christmas. It was interesting. I had wanted some kind of resolution as to who committed the murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier. However, it seems like it's a cold case with no resolution in sight. This was a three out of five stars for me.

The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert
Everything else was just average or I didn't like. I'm not including my reread of the Illuminae Files in the list of favorites for the month since they're rereads and I loved them the second time around just as much as the first time around.
I'm currently in the middle of three books, two physical and one audio. One of my physical books is another reread: A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas. I listened to the audio books of this series and wanted to do a reread of the physical books when I heard there was going to be more in this series, starting with A Court of Frost and Starlight and there will be three books beyond that. So I definitely wanted to get a reread in before that new book comes out.
I'm almost a quarter of the way through Daughter of the Siren Queen by Tricia Levenseller. This picks up shortly after Daughter of the Pirate King. We're still following Alosa and her crew. The first book follows Alosa as she allows herself to be captured by another pirate in order to find a piece of a map that would allow her father to find the Isla de Canta and the treasure it holds. I'm liking this so far.
As for my audio book, I am finally getting around to Leigh Bardugo's Shadow and Bone. I have been meaning to delve into the Grishaverse for months now, even more so since I bought Six of Crows on sale through Audible and then received The Language of Thorns in a subscription box. I'm almost done with this one at 86%. I'm liking it. I used my two credits that I received on the 27th for this and Siege and Storm. I plan on getting Ruin and Rising and Crooked Kingdom with my next two credits at the end of March.
According to my Goodreads, I am currently half way to my goal of 40 books and 14 books ahead of schedule. I hate that I've felt slow with my reading this year since I haven't read a ton of physical books and the majority of the books I've read are audio books. But at the same time, I'm glad I have discovered audio books since I have gotten so much more reading done. I will probably have to up my reading goal when we get halfway through the year. I have no clue what I'll change it to but I'll worry about it when we get there.
